We have had a third fantastic term, learning all about the Egyptians. A highlight was the visit from author Juliet Desailly, who inspired us in writing our own Egyptian stories. We studied the River Nile and explored the history of ancient Egypt .
We really enjoyed mummifying tomatoes and designing and creating canopic jars, some of which you can see below. It is obvious that we have some very talented artists in Olive class!
We have had a very busy term and are looking forward to a well-earned Christmas break. In English we have explored Shakespeare including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth and Hamlet. We enjoyed using drama techniques to delve into characters and the possible reasons behind their actions. Recently, we have been producing our own graphic novel versions of Hamlet, which the children have thrown themselves into with gusto!
Some of our other highlights this term have been Science experiments investigating dissolving materials, hands on maths lessons involving measure, forest school fun and of course our fantastic trip to Rochester Cathedral to sing carols! We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Christmas and a big thank you for all your support. See you in the New Year!!
Our targets this term were: Maths : To determine the value of each digit up to a million.
Science: Undertake different kinds of scientific enquiries to answer questions,
including recognising and controlling variables where necessary.
Thematic: Develop strategies for keeping emotionally and physically safe.
As you can see, we have been working very hard to achieve our targets. Well done everybody!
We have been very busy in our first term, where we explored the topic of Stargazers.
Some highlights were; experimenting with creating craters, using paper- mache to design our own planets and a visit from an Astrodome!
We enjoyed performing our Harvest Festival song for you and are really looking forward to continuing to learn the Eukelele next term.
On our last day of Term 1, despite the terrible rain, we created some bird feeders for the area outside our classroom. Mrs. Carman was particularly impressed with the sensible way the children handled the materials during this task. We are really looking forward to seeing how much has been eaten by the birds (and squirrels no doubt) upon our return. Thank you to all those parents and carers that brought in bulbs and plants for this day. We will make sure that these are planted up in drier weather, when we return to school.
