Tuesday 12th may

There were so many learning superstars yesterday! We have been wowed by the improvements in your writing. So many of you are writing sentences with finger spaces now. Your writing is sitting on the line and is a sensible  size. You should be very proud of yourselves. You all showed fantastic maths skills finding different ways to make 5. We saw lego, duplo, oranges, sweets, rocks and dolls being used to help you understand the concept. Great work Ash and Oak class!

Superstars

We are going to try something new today. This is a phonics lesson taught by Mr MC who sings the counting song and boom shake the alphabet song. See if your children like it. If not, you can continue to practise using the format we have done for the past few weeks...Recap the sounds and read some words with the new sound 'or' in it.

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kotny7AO-VY

'or' sound   up to 10mins. The rest of the clip is a writing activity which you can continue if your child is interested.

2. Use glitter or flour or salt on plates and draw the words from the worksheet. Can you make up your own silly words. use playdough to make the words if it's more fun for them.

3. Complete the worksheet below.

Topic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVm5k99PnBk

Watch the video on the life cycle of a caterpillar. What is happening? Discuss how the caterpillar changes in its chrysalis (also called cocoon) - It is called metamorphosis.  Talk about how different animals have different life cycles. How do we start life? Babies, do we make a chrysalis and transform?

What about other animals e.g marsupials that are born in a pouch e.g. koalas, kangaroos?

Research and draw two animals of your choice and write/discuss what is similar and what is different about them in their life cycle or appearance.

Maths

Starter:

Can you count to 100 and exercise?

Activity:

Today we are looking at adding two groups of objects together to find the total.

Use number cards to pick two numbers to make an addition problem. Add together using fruit pieces (fresh or plastic fruit) or other objects if this is not available.

(example: 6 + 5 =)

Use the fruit or other objects as a visual for finding the total.

Challenge: Can you use numbers to 20.

You can use your own number cards at home, write your own on paper or you can use the printable ones attached below.
