“Foundations for Life”

Computing

'Foundations for...Digital Technologists'

The Academy of Cuxton Schools uses the NCCE Teach Computing curriculum to guide our computing teaching. This resource aims to instil a sense of enjoyment around using technology and to develop pupil’s appreciation of its capabilities and the opportunities technology offers to create, manage, organise and collaborate. Through our chosen computing curriculum, we intend for pupils not only to be digitally competent but have a range of transferable skills at a suitable level for the future workplace, but also to be responsible online citizens. The computing curriculum enables pupils to meet the end of Key Stage Attainment targets outlined in the National Curriculum for computing. Part of our computing curriculum also meets several online safety aspects of the DfE’s Education for a Connected World framework. This guidance was created to help equip children for life in the digital world, including developing their understanding of appropriate online behaviour, copyright issues, being discerning consumers of online information and healthy use of technology.

We aim to provide all children with a broad and balanced computing curriculum so that they do adopt the ‘foundations for life’ they need to be successful in their futures. We achieve this by ensuring there is a progressive, structured approach to learning key computing skills to enable children to become digitally literate in the modern world in which they will grow up in. By using a variety of technology, using various devices and stand-alone technology we aim for children to be able to transfer their skills across known and unfamiliar devices, applications and software, ensuring that they are ready to tackle computing at secondary school and beyond.
