'Foundations for...English'

At The Academy of Cuxton Schools we recognise that without effective communication: verbal, written or digital, little achievement can be made, both within and beyond our school. Therefore, we endeavour to use engaging forms of literature to immerse our children in a language rich environment. We advocate that the children reflect on an author’s use of different literary techniques (for purpose and effect) and apply this understanding to their own writing. Thus allowing our children to become proficient in the areas of English through supported phases of learning.  

As we view the use of English as a medium to show our understanding of our learning, we encourage, and expect, the same high standards of spoken language, reading and writing in all subjects and contexts. 

In March 2022 we started using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds phonics. This is an exciting phonics scheme that enhances the way we teach phonics and early reading.
