Today is tricky word Wednesday!

The tricky and high frequency words we are focusing on today are: oh, there, said, so, people, looked, some, come, Mr, Mrs, have, like, called, asked, and were (all the tricky and high frequency words we have learnt so far this term!)

Choose 6 words that you find the most difficult and create a tricky word rainbow.

Mrs Lenotti’s group:

Before we start, let’s practise all of our sounds - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/flashcards-speed-trials  (Phase 3/4)

When you come back to school, we are going to do a small assessment to see if we are ready to move to phase 5! So, this week I thought we’d have a little practise of everything you already know including tricky words and alien words. I hope you’ve got your competitive heads on today! I’ve found a phonics version of Monopoly for you to play with your family.

Mrs Hutcheon’s group:

Before we start, let’s practise all of our sounds - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/flashcards-speed-trials  (Phase 5) Write down the score you get and see if you can beat it tomorrow! If you cannot access phonicsplay, test yourself on the sound mat!

Today, we are learning to explore the alternative pronunciation of the g grapheme. Watch this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BefTO6f3Qt0

Let’s Practice! Help the chimps decide how to pronounce the tricky grapheme for each word (g) - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/cheeky-chimps

Write the following words on separate piece of paper and fold them in half, twice:

  • Ginger
  • Gold
  • Gem
  • Danger
  • Gum
  • Gentle
  • Glue
  • Gravy

Get two cups and label one short (ie got), one long (ie gem). Put the words into a container, such as a hat. Choose a word and try and throw it into the right cup.
