Personal Development
At The Academy of Cuxton School's we prioritise promoting personal, social and health education across the Curriculum. We want our children to have the 'foundations for life' so that they can develop and understand themselves, understand others and the world around them. We aim for our children grow into ambitious, confident individuals and as members of families and communities. We want our pupils to be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills to live healthy, safe, fulfilled and responsible lives, both now and in the future.
Through the explicit teaching of mental and emotional health, we promote pupils’ wellbeing through an understanding of their own and others’ emotions and the development of healthy coping strategies. It also contributes to safeguarding, providing pupils with knowledge, understanding and strategies to keep themselves healthy and safe, as well as equipping them to support others who are facing challenges.
We combine Relationships and Sex Education with Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education, believing that a focus on personal development better serves our children and helps them to succeed. We guide our learners through a wide range of subjects and issues, equipping them with the understanding and skills for life that they need to lead successful, compassionate and understanding lives.
CARE Package
In keeping with our school values, we have created a CARE package of experiences that all children will have on their journey through our school and nursery. Cuxton’s Agreed Real-Life Enrichment Package will provide one experience each term which complements the learning taking place. The activities include a blend of local area visits, as well as experiences on offer from further afield. The package also includes inviting visitors into our school and running themed days, therefore providing a unique, learning-based series of 54 memorable and enriching activities during a child’s time at Cuxton.

Focus on oracy across the school
At The Academy of Cuxton Schools, we want the children to have the 'foundations for life' to succeed in their next part of their education and also their later life. We want our children to leave us with fantastic communication skills so, as a school, we are focusing on 'learning to talk and learning through talk'. 'There are many benefit to oracy, which go beyond academic achievement and employablity. For example, good orally skills helps books a range of social, emotional, and interpersonal skills such as resilience, empathy and self-confidence.
We have introduced the acronym shape to support our children in 'learning to talk'. This has been shared with all stakeholders. We have also generated an orally progression map, which has been included into the English Curriculum to prioritise the teaching of oracy.
