Please hear your child read at least 3x per week, ideally every day as well as reading story/bedtime books for pleasure. Use the banded reading books that show off your child's reading skills as well as other reading material that your child is interested in. Please practise the sound/phoneme cards your child brings home daily. This helps them become more confident fluent readers as they can begin to recognise the phonemes instantly. Please add to their Boom Reader! online reading record once you have done this. The children achieve reading awards/certificates for...
25 home reads (Bronze award-stickers)
50 home reads (Silver award- bookmark)
100 home reads (Gold award certificate and their name on a special leaf on the reading tree and a special mention in assembly!)
200 home reads (Platinum award certificate and their name on a special leaf on the reading tree and an EXTRA special celebration in assembly!)
The activities below give you some other ideas to make reading more accessible and fun for your child. If you have any questions, please do see a member of the EYFS team and we will be happy to help.
