Term 1: Superhero me!
Incredible Me!
The first term is all about familiarising the children with the new routines and boundaries of school life and getting to know each other! We kick off the school year with some stories about children's first days at school, discussing emotions, how we might be feeling and celebrating our differences and backgrounds, likes and dislikes by reading 'What Makes Me a ME?'.
Topics throughout the rest of the term follow the children's interests and are fluid. We may learn about superheroes, people who help us and healthy eating, harvest, growing food, space or dinosaurs.
Within maths, we will be getting to know the children's strengths and areas to improve. We will learn about the value of the numbers 1-5, recognising numerals, learning to count, subitise (know how many there are without counting) as well as explore 2D shapes.
Children will also be learning their first sounds! We will be practising singing songs and rhymes to help us tune into the different sounds finding the initial sound of words and beginning to bled to read simple words such as red and bin etc. We will follow the Little Wandle letters and Sounds phonics program. We will send out more details around this in the near future.
