SEN Progress and Attainment
While we monitor progress and attainment closely through our online tracking system, at Cuxton, we recognise that personal development for children is also essential, particularly for those with special educational needs (SEN). Personal development can include activities and strategies that help them develop self-awareness, self-esteem, and social skills, such as:
- Routines which can help children feel reassured by providing structure and predictability.
- Identifying feelings so children can learn to recognise and label their emotions.
- Positive attention which gives children attention for positive behaviour, helping them to learn how to get attention in an appropriate way.
- Sense of contribution so children can feel a sense of accomplishment and responsibility when they see how their contributions impact others.
- British values, including the teaching of democracy, the rule of law, and mutual respect.
- Celebrating successes where individual successes can be celebrated in school.
- Sharing personal development where children can share things they've done outside of school, like earning swimming badges or raising money for charity.
- Tolerance of others through the teaching of differences.
- Removing barriers to learning by working together to remove barriers to learning for all who face challenges.
