Writing is a very complex skill that learners tend to develop slowest as it is a combination of children's vocabulary, understanding of language, sentence structure, fine motor skills (being able to hold a pencil and form letters) concentration, memory and imagination. Children will always be more motivated to write about something they are interested in so get them writing labels for their role play, making signs for their bedroom, writing shopping lists, toy lists, drawing their favourite characters or toys and labelling them so they see writing as purposeful and meaningful to them.
